Starbucks launched their mobile pre-order service in London yesterday. The mobile app has been live nationwide in the U.S with more than 4,000 stores for a few months now and Europe has been sitting there waiting for the convenience option. It’s the first time outside of the U.S. that it has become available and is now operating in 150 locations across the United Kingdom. With the new service you can order your drinks and pay for them ahead of time so you don’t have to wait in that long line.
Starbucks hasn’t said how it affects them logistically yet, but they are saying that their transactions have
increased already. It seems that adding a dedicated barista for pre-orders would be easiest to accommodate the new sales. Everybody who has used the pre-order app in the U.S. would say that it’s easier and faster. All you do is have a pre set drink and pay before you head to the location. Starbucks gives you an approximate time for pick up, so they have enough time to make your drink along with others waiting in line. The article states that there are already 16 million active people that use this mobile service app. I feel that maybe soon down the line, it will be the norm to pre pay and just drop in and pick up your order.
I have tried it before and I love it. The app works well and you don’t have to wait in line, potentially buying that mug you wanted for the past 10 months. But I still prefer those no name coffee shops in Washington that you drive up to. Nothing beats a cute girl remembering your name and personally making your favorite drink without Starbucks attire on.
