The Real Life Dangers of FOMO

The Fear of Missing Out, also known as FOMO, may sound like a millennial first-world problem, but it can have very real effects on people who actively use social media. Children and young adults are the most susceptible to developing this anxiety which is rooted in feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem due to the hundreds of comparisons we make between ourselves and others each day. Every time we compare our lives to the edited highlights of celebrities or even our peers, we can experience immediate signs of anxiety and depression which can have lasting effects on our mental health.
