The Social Media Times

Web 2.0 has been talked about and been around for more than a decade now. The article titled, “How Silicon Valley reengineered journalism”, states that Silicon Valley has re-created what is news and how news is created. The issue is that Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. didn’t want to be a news source. They wanted to be known as a “technology company” and wanted to be a social media platform. However, these companies have taken over news organizations , becoming key components in the news ecosystem and how people get their news.

Most of my news is taken from these various social media platforms. It mainly has to do with how the information is easy for me to access and how the news interacts with me. I was in the marketing department for a newspaper in Wyoming and no matter how hard they will try to use social media and create a younger audience, they are too late to the game. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc has taken over the news industry. Journalist across the country now have to face the ‘fake news’ of society and the hill will only get steeper.
